Safety

Cottrell Contracting’s first priority when conducting its operations is safety.  No project can be looked upon as successful if an accident occurs.  Cottrell Contracting’s Safety Director ensures that each employee before ever starting work has been fully trained to do the job that he or she was hired to do.  This is accomplished by utilizing safety videos, equipment training, as well as educating personnel in the areas of material safety data sheets, lockout/tagout procedures as well as reviewing all company safety procedures.

Cottrell has in place a safety awards program which awards points to each employee for every hour worked without a lost time accident.  These points can later be redeemed for merchandise.  In addition the management of Cottrell Contracting issues periodic safety challenges to specific dredges to complete a certain job without a lost time accident.  If successful, the entire crew receives a cash safety bonus.

Cottrell is proud that it has one of the lowest accident rates in its industry.  With an experience modification of just .58 its insurance underwriters have acknowledged that its safety record has been outstanding.  Cottrell always has, and will continue, to be committed to making safety its first priority.
